We Bought Our Dream Farm!

We bought a farm are still pinching ourselves! A working cattle farm in middle TN with a historical Greek Revival home built in 1879 - a dream come true for our family.

How it happened: we weren’t planning on buying a farm…we were actually in the middle of finalizing a contractor to build a custom home on what we thought would be our very long term property (a good reminder to never say forever!). I had drafted the house plans, started the permitting process, and we were on our way. Then on December 15th of 2022 I received an email from Zillow notifying me that a house I had saved was back on the market; it was The Farm (Wade and I had previously seen the place on Zillow, we were traveling a lot then and the timing wasn’t right). I showed Wade the email and the listing, we both remembered the property and the initial listing from over a year ago. We smiled, looked at each other, and said ‘let’s just go and see…’. We took the drive out The Farm, immediately fell in love with the home and the land, and 10 days later we were under contract and selling our house to buy the property… there’s been no looking back and we couldn’t be happier!

We’ve named the property Farm 1879 - it was built in 1879 by a Civil War soldier. The entire property is rich with history; we are grateful to honor that history and bring the home back to life.

We’re currently in the middle of renovating the farm house - it needed a lot of love. We’re starting from the inside out; new plumbing, electrical, air and roofing. All this was more than we had initially planned on but we’re happy to have an old home with updated utilities (note: always plan on doing more when you open up the walls of an old home!). All the extra work pushes back the kitchen addition, but I figure that’s more time to plan out my dream kitchen…!

Here are photos from December 2022 when we first saw, and fell in love, with the farm!
