Kids Bathroom Remodel

PLUS HOW MUCH THE BATHROOM REMODEL COST!

We have wrapped up our kids bath remodel - as in there is not a single thing left to do - and it’s extremely satisfying to check a remodel off our to-complete list! Here are some before and after photos, as well as sources for this project. I am also including the cost of the remodel - sharing where I splurged and where I saved.

This bath is the only bathroom upstairs, where the kids room’s and the guest room are located. I wanted this bathroom to function well for our kiddos, as well as be esthetically ‘nice’ for our guests. With the classic black and white color scheme, and use of mixed materials (real wood, marble, warm brass and brushed nickel) I accomplished the functionality and look I was going for!

Here is where we started.

The layout works well for this bathroom so we kept the location of everything (this also saves money when pipes don’t have to be moved!). By switching out the fixtures and finishes, we completely transformed this hardworking bath on a budget. Here is the after!

I am so happy with how it all turned out! When using a black and white color scheme (my favorite color scheme ;)), mixing materials and finishes is key to keeping it interesting. I mixed brass (not all the brass colors match and that is OK!), brushed nickel for the lighting and faucet, light wood, dark wood, different linens, black marble, and white (Carrera) marble.

Using long linen curtains as shower curtains is one of my favorite ways to elevate a simple bathroom! You can order extra long curtain liners (linked below) and attach them with clear shower curtain hooks on the inside. This simple double curtain trick makes a space feel extra special.

Let’s talk about the budget! Because we are remodeling all three bathrooms in our home (at the same time!), keeping costs low(er) was important. I did a lot of high/low mixing to make it all happen for less than $5000. Here is the break down!

FLOOR TILE - this was about $14/sqft, medium price range for tile. because the floor space was small, I could extend the budget here.

SHOWER TILE - at about $1/sqft this is where I saved. The shower surround is a big space, choosing a simple tile for a classic look at an inexpensive price point was key.

TUB: $440 - having a bathtub with clean lines makes the entire space feel more intentional. I love this one from Kholer!

TOILET - $245 - American Standard is now making a nice looking toilet ($200 less than the Kholer look alike) and we’ve put them in all our latest remodel projects. For functionality, price and look, I give them a 10/10!

SHOWER ROD - it is barely seen so no need to spend lots here! I do like how the ends are finished - feels nicer than the rubber ended curtain rods (also, these are the details I notice and sometimes it makes Wade crazy - ha!)

TOILET PAPER HOLDER - the open end design of this makes it easier for kids and guests to add/remove toilet paper! It was less than $20.

BRASS CURTAIN ROD: I love this rod and will most definitely be using it in other projects! The color is great and the details make it look high end for a $40 price point.

CAFE CURTAINS: A $30 amazon find and I LOVE them. They have simple + sweet border detailing. They are 55% linen but look like 100%!

VANITY LIGHT: When I found this light (similar style to Schoolhouse electric) I loved it - made in the USA! $245 was a great price point for the look, and I am always happy to support American businesses and artisans!

FAUCET: $195 - I like the low profile of this faucet and the brushed nickel finish (won’t show water drips as much as polished nickel!).

VANITY: this was my one big splurge! $1645 with the marble sink (apply the 15% off coupon from their site!). I was looking for a real wood vanity to anchor the space and the faux woods/less expensive options were not cutting it! I am so happy to decided to spend a little more on this mahogany vanity and real marble top - it really makes the space!

All in all the remodel cost us (with tile installation) just shy of $5000 - a good investment for a completely new and updated bathroom! If you ever have cost questions please ask me - I believe in sharing this information to help create realistic expectations for homeowners!
